Save Japan Dolphin Day:

"At least 20,000 dolphins and other small whales are killed in the most brutal way imaginable every year in Japan.
...On September 3, 2008 you will have a small window of opportunity to bring attention to the plight of the smaller whales. All you have to do is go to the nearest Japanese embassy or consulate office
at 12 noon and

join the protest.

Protect Utah Wilderness from
Oil & Gas and ORVs

"The Bush Administration is rushing through plans to exploit world-renowned public lands.
Help us save Utah's Red Rock canyon country from extensive oil & gas drilling and off-road vehicles before it's too late!

Deserts are not dead wastelands! They are vibrant and sensitive ecosystems, provide vital habitat for an amazing array of wildlife and need special care. That is why it is so important to make sure they are protected as the government begins to map out the future of solar energy in the Southwest. Protect Wild ~ Tigers Take Action:
There are less than 4,000 tigers left in the wild. Despite the very real possibility that the species could go extinct, tiger farmers in China, claiming that they have thousands of captive-bred tigers for which they are unable to properly care, have launched an effort to pressure the Chinese government into lifting the highly effective tiger trade ban.
Please urge your Congressional representative to sign a letter to the Chinese Government supporting China’s ban on the trade in tigers.

"Peace is not made at the Council table or by treaties, but in the hearts of men." ~ Herbert Clark Hoover ~ 1874-1964, American - 31st American President

Founded in 1954, The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) envisions a world in which people satisfy the physical and emotional needs of domestic animals; protect wild animals and their environments; and change their relationships with other animals, evolving from exploitation and harm to respect and compassion.

"Every day, thousands of fish, whales, dolphins, turtles, and other endangered marine life are drowned, crushed, and suffocated after being caught on fishing hooks and nets meant for other species.
They are often tossed back into the ocean, dead or dying."

• It takes 2,500 gallons of water, 12 pounds of grain, 35 pounds of topsoil and the energy equivalent of one gallon of gasoline to produce one pound of feedlot beef.
• 70% of US grain production is fed to livestock.
• 5 million acres of rainforest are felled every year in South and Central America alone to create cattle pasture.
• Roughly 20% of all currently threatened and endangered species in the US are harmed by livestock grazing.
• Animal agriculture is a chief contributor to water pollution.
• America's farm animals produce 10 times the waste produced by the human population.

Is the circus coming to your town?

"What's Wrong with This Picture?":

"The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) opposes the use of wild animals in circuses and other traveling acts. Because cruelty to animals is inherent to such displays, we seek to end such uses of wild animals. We work to achieve this by increasing public awareness and strengthening the federal, state, and local laws that protect captive wild and exotic animals."

SOME "GOOD NEWS"
Dear Friends,
There are a lot of issues
worldwide. Certainly there are many threats to the environment. But activism does help to make changes for the better. Here's a list of some of the results of people & organizations taking action, and making a difference!

A Report from SaveOurEnvironment.org (23 May '06) "Last week, the House of Representatives passed six out of six pro-environment votes. These were huge wins thanks in large part to you and so many other SaveOurEnvironment.org activists who urged their representatives to stand up for the environment.
The House voted in favor of:
Two amendments to preserve the 25-year-old moratorium on new offshore drilling.
Requiring the EPA to better protect wetlands and other waters.
Preventing the EPA from moving forward with plans to weaken the public's right to know about toxic chemicals.
Eliminating subsidies for logging roads in Alaska's Tongass National Forest.
Prohibiting the Department of the Interior from awarding new leases to oil companies that are drilling off our coasts without paying royalties.
These victories demonstrate the power of citizens to convince their elected representatives to act in the interest of the environment – now and in the future - instead of catering to the oil and gas industry and other polluting industries."
